The new DAC3.1x/II Balanced replaces the Canadian produced model MkI version and offers the following improvements and revisions,1.) Better power supply now with valve regulation, ECL82, in addition to the valve rectifier also used in the DAC3.1x Balanced.2.) Further simplified digital circuit and better PCB layout (it takes time to understand3.) Improved digital – analogue I/V transformer interface4.) No analogue filtering whatsoever.5.) Improved line amplifier circuit, we have moved from the use of 2 x 6DJ8/ECC88 run in parallel to a series stage consisting of two ECC82s, this allowed the use of a better output transformer6.) Better output transformer, 33:1 step down ratio, improving bandwidth, and dynamic signal transfer whilst also reducing hum and RF interference. The copper wired output transformers use the new IHiB core material in a double C-core configuration. Note the copper shrouds on the output transformers, a small detail perhaps, but an important one and not just cosmetically, commercially available transformer frames and shrouds are all made from steel, which is magnetic and when an air gapped transformer is assembled with a magnetic frame or shroud, its performance is adversely affected, because the air gap is shorted by the magnetic currents flowing in the frame or shroud and a loss of low level detail is evident. We therefore decided to move over to copper frames and shrouds, as they do not affect performance.

The Audio Note IQ cartridges are the finest Moving Magnet designs currently available. A refinement of the established Moving Magnet principle, they offer an excellent combination of exceptional tracking ability, dynamic range and longevity, thanks to the extremely high quality components used for their construction. Each model employs a highly rigid Pocan™ body shell, equipped with integral threaded inserts for easy installation in the tonearm head-shell. The suspension of the IQI is stiffer than usually found in a Moving Magnet cartridge, and uses a cantilever formed from a specially hardened aluminium tube. A refinement of the established Moving Magnet principle, they offer an excellent combination of exceptional tracking ability, dynamic range and longevity, thanks to the extremely high quality components used for their construction. Each model employs a highly rigid Pocan™ body shell, equipped with integral threaded inserts for easy installation in the tonearm head-shell. This mounting system greatly improves mechanical coupling between the cartridge body and head-shell in comparison to the traditional nut & bolt fixing. All low versions should be used with Audio Note™ MC cartridges to get best bandwidth and dynamic conversion to retain harmonic envelope best possible.The new AN-S3 (meaning NOT the AN-S3L-AG which is being slowly phased out) and AN-S4 there are now 6 versions of each, 1 Ohm, 4 Ohm, 9 Ohm, 16 Ohm, 36 Ohm and 64 Ohm, the 1 Ohm is for all the Audio Note™ Io cartridges and the rest are for other low output moving coils, such as Dynavector, Denon, Clearaudio, Koetsu, Lyra, Goldbug, van den Hul, Allerts, Ortofon, Goldring and Micro Benz. It is important to appreciate the utmost importance of getting the impedance matching between the cartridge coil and the primary of the transformer as close as possible, we used to sell a transformer, the AN-S7, which had 6 switchable impedances, which was a great help when determining which impedance suited a cartridge best, however, the trade-off in sound quality from the multible taps on the transformers and the switches were too great. All Audio Note™ MC transformers are housed in solid copper chassis’s for best sound. Despite this they are quite sensitive to positioning, and hum will occur when they are too close to power cords, supplies or electric motors and their associated wiring (from a separate turntable power supply to the turntable itself for example), so careful positioning is mandatory
